10 Yummy Toppings for Your Plain Yogurt

Yogurt is a healthy choice for breakfast or a snack, as long as you get the plain variety. Plain Greek yogurt is even healthier. You are looking for yogurt that has no added sugar. But for many people, without fruit or some other toppings added in, eating yogurt is not as pleasurable.

Not to worry though. You can top it any way you like and it will taste better and be healthier for you than a pre-topped and pre-mixed yogurt. Here are some of the best toppings to put on your plain yogurt, from ones you may have heard of to new twists.

1. Lemon poppy seed

If you love the muffins by the same name but don’t want all those carbs, try it in yogurt form. Simply mix fresh lemon juice and a few drops of almond extract into your yogurt. Top with poppy seeds and the transformation is complete.

2. Almond honey apricot

Stir in raw organic honey and then top with coarsely chopped almonds and chunks of dried apricots. Add another drizzle of the honey on top.

3. Fresh berry blast

Take cut up strawberries, blueberries, raspberries or blackberries, or even some combination of them all and toss them on top of your yogurt for a classic treat with much less sugar than the fruit on the bottom varieties.

4. Coconut chocolate twist

Craving a chocolate flavor but don’t want the added sugar? Simply mix your plain yogurt with cocoa powder. Then top it with toasted sweet coconut flakes and shaved dark chocolate for an epicurean delight that is good for you!

5. Blueberry lemon sauce

Smash fresh blueberries up with fresh-squeezed lemon juice and raw organic honey. Add dollops of it on top of your plain yogurt for a sweet and sour treat.

Add sliced bananas to the top of your yogurt. Then dust it lightly with cinnamon for a sweet taste with no added sugar.

7. Pistachios, dried cranberry and honey
