10 Festive and Fun Christmas Gifts

Nov 10, 2019

This year has gone by with a speed that exceeds my imagination. Is it possible that we are now only a little over a month away from Christmas? Do not get me wrong, I love everything about Christmas: The family getting together and making memories, a feast that makes you feel as if you will have to diet until the next Christmas and of course the gathering around the tree with faces that exuberate joy, excitement and yes, peace – for a moment we can forget about all the worries of the world and just enjoy being around loved ones and giving out gifts (as well as receive them).

However, the one dreaded thing that seems to take hours of tedious brainstorming and an insufferable amount of time, especially if you are an impatient person as I am, is Christmas shopping. The dread of walking through a copious amount of stores and shopping isles causes me to cringe as if someone menacing decided to scratch on a chalkboard with their nails with no thought of mercy on how that would make me suffer. Yes, I am an ambivert and this introvert side of me is very strong.

Some hate it and some love it, whichever one you fall under it is never a disadvantage to have a little guidance – or if you fall under the “love” category – some inspiration. Thus, I have compiled a list of festive and fun (plus cheap) Christmas gift ideas you can look at that might help you with that shopping and yes, creative expedition:

1 Marble mugs

Everyone loves a hot drink – whether it is coffee, tea or a nice cup of hot cocoa. Hence, this is a great gift for anyone in your circle and it will not cost you much. All you need is a mug, some nail polish and voila!

You start by pouring the nail polish in a container of warm water, you then take your mug and dip it into the nail polish to create a cool design. You can use a toothpick or wood coffee stirrer to draw on the mug. This looks very trendy and is sure to be a unique winner.

2 Gift packed slippers

Who does not like a nice pair of cozy slippers to wear after a stressful day? Now, we all know slippers will not always be enough to make a person feel special, so why not fill it like a Christmas stocking? Think about who you would want to give this gift to and what kind of small gifts and treats they would appreciate and then stuff the slippers with that. You can even finish it off with a bow.

3 Scratch map

If someone in your family or friend group loves traveling or wishes to one day travel the world, why not give them a gift that will excite and inspire them even more? A scratch map is a perfect gift for the adventurer – showing him or her where they have been, making them feel thankful or motivating them to save up, pack their bags and climb on that plane to explore this big world, that is now (thanks to technology) not as big and inaccessible anymore.

4 Adventure scrapbook

I am the sentimental type and if I know someone else that I love is also sentimental, I put a lot of extra thought in their gifts – one great one, in particular, is an adventure scrapbook. In it, you can create a whole journal of the time you spent with a loved one and fill it with the adventures you had.

They will see the amount of effort and time you put into the gift, as well as look at the memories with a sense of nostalgia and fondness. End the scrapbook in such a way that they know you cannot wait for the many years of adventure stretched out in front of you both.

5 Scented mason jar candle

This is a fun, inexpensive and beautiful gift for any woman! All you need is a mason jar, some arts and crafts, and a scented candle. You can make a few, each one with a unique design. Another idea is to design it according to the Christmas theme: Go all out on reindeers, Santa Clause, Snowflakes, and Elves. It all depends on who you are making it for, though, if the person would prefer a gift that can be used any time of the year, create a design that suits their taste and could be used throughout the year.

6 Reindeer beers

We cannot forget about the guys in our tribe: A cute idea for them is to just buy a six-pack of beer (or any other beverage they prefer) and festively decorate it. As they take a sip or pour a drink, they are sure to feel the cheerfulness of the season. If not, at least you can have fun looking at them take a sip out of something that looks like it came out of Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.

7 Photo-framed window decoration

We all love a good photo – and just as I mentioned in the Adventure Scrapbook section – this is a great way to show a person how much you care. All you need is an old window frame, or if you cannot find one just a regular frame, and place special photos of you and the loved one in them.

Why not write them a special letter or put in an inspiring quote? Therefore, every time they look at the frame they will be reminded of the special bond between you.

8 Ceramic tile coasters

We all are horrified at the idea of a coffee, wine or soft drink stains on our tables, thus a creative Do It Yourself gift is definitely a good idea. Make it special by Mod Podging photos, quotes or pictures that the person likes on the coasters. Never will there be a stain again!

9 Vintage jewelry box

My jewelry is always lying around everywhere and this was a saving grace when I made one for myself. All you need is a small to medium box, some material, paint, crafts, and glue. Design something that the person you want to give it to would like, put on some music, start crafting and there you have it.

A great idea, especially for Christmas might be something velvet, topped with mistletoes and acorns.

10 Shake globes

Do you or someone you love adore snow-globes? A creative way to give one to someone is to simply use an inexpensive salt-shaker, put in a mini object and seal the lid. This will look like a mini winter-wonderland and is great for decorating a room and creating a joyful atmosphere.
