7 Awesome Ideas to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day
Although St. Patrick’s Day is not the most popular and celebrated holiday, I am sure there are many people who love this holiday and who are looking for some great ideas to celebrate this green event that can be fun for adults and children alike.
St. Patrick’s Day happens as spring begins to emerge, so it’s the perfect way to look forward to the warm weather while making a wonderful celebration you’ll remember for years. Here are a few great ideas for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day this spring.
1 Create shamrocks
Start your celebration by decorating your home and workplace. Using green construction paper, create some shamrocks and decorate them with some glitter. While this is a fun activity for children, you can make them too. You can also make some shamrock-shaped cookies, topped with some frosting and green sprinkles, and share them with your family, friends, and co-workers. On St. Patrick’s Day, surprise your children with shamrock-shaped pancakes with some green syrup that you can make for breakfast.
2 Catch a leprechaun
If you have children, you might think of some fun activities to do on St. Patrick’s Day. Sure, crafting is great, but what about games? Suggest your kids catch a leprechaun and they can spend the entire day trying to catch him and you will have time to do other things. Leprechauns are known for being mischief-makers, so it can get messy, which children actually like, right?
Using powdered sugar make leprechaun footprints around the house. You can also buy green food coloring and tint the water in your toilet with it. I also like covering everything in green crepe paper and confetti. Just do this when your children are sleeping, or this activity won’t be interesting to them.

3 Irish dance
Irish dance is known for its jigs, and it’s a show of talent and grace. You can plan St. Patrick’s Day party and dance together, or go to some Irish pub and dance and enjoy some Irish food and beers with your friends. Irish dance is not as difficult as you think, just learn a few steps on YouTube and you are ready to impress your family and friends.
4 Make Irish meal
Another great idea to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day is to make an authentic Irish meal, for instance, corned beef and cabbage. Since I don’t have time for cooking (to tell the truth, I don’t enjoy cooking) I usually make this meal in a slow cooker so I have more time to spend with my little ones and I don’t get tired of cooking. Serve your meal with soda bread and you will have a great St. Patrick’s Day meal that everyone will like.
5 Enjoy Irish coffee
Are you a big coffee lover? Have you ever tried Irish coffee? Many bars can make you a good Irish coffee that will warm your spirit and satisfy your taste buds. If you have time, you can learn how to make it at home. Invite your sweetheart or friend and find it out together. You will have lots of fun!
6 Visit a St. Patrick’s Day parade
A lot of cities have a St. Patrick’s Day parade every year and that can be interesting and really fun for kids and adults of all ages. Consider visiting a parade, but make sure you get there early so that you can have a better seat. Be ready for numerous leprechauns, rainbows, gold coins, and wonderful Irish music. Also, there might be drinks and snacks so don’t forget to try them.

7 Run a St. Patrick’s Day 5K
If your city hosts a St. Patrick’s Day 5K, consider taking part in it to support local charities. It’s a fun and healthy way to spend some quality time with your family and friends. Plus, you will burn lots of unwanted calories. If you aren’t a good runner, check out runs that will allow you to walk. Such runs are good for children too.
I think St. Patrick’s Day is a great holiday and even though I’m not Irish, I celebrate this holiday every year. Do you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? If so, how are you going to celebrate this holiday this year? Share your ideas.
