May 30, 2017

If you have a sweet tooth, it can be hard to say no to desserts. If you want to stay healthy and look your best though, you can’t eat desserts all the time. Well, not unless you make healthy desserts that is!

Fruit is a great way to enjoy something sweet with health benefits that will not load you up with unnecessary sugars and carbs. But sometimes we want more than a piece of fruit. Something that is more indulgent.

The good news is you can use fruit to make it into a healthy dessert. So you will still get all the great benefits of fruit and satisfy your craving for dessert with an indulgence that you will not believe is good for you. Try these!

1 Cannoli berries

Hollow out large strawberries and stuff them with a ricotta and powdered sugar mixture to make a cannoli cream. Use part-skim ricotta to keep it healthy. You will want to strain the ricotta first before mixing it with the powdered sugar.

Use 8 ounces of ricotta, 1/4 cup of powdered sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract to make this filling. Stuff the strawberries and then you can top them with sprinkles or mini chocolate chips for garnish.

2 Chocolate-covered bananas

Make them in bite-size bits perfect for the kids or keep them in a banana shape. Whatever you do, just poke a stick in them and lay them flat on a tray to freeze them for 3 hours. Then melt chocolate and dip the bananas in.

You can roll them in any other toppings you wish from granola to sprinkles. Once you dip and roll them, lay them on top of wax paper to allow them to set. You can even pop your chocolate-covered bananas back in the freezer for a few minutes.

3 Greek yogurt pops

Plain Greek yogurt is so good for you. Turn that good-for-you food into a cool and tasty treat you will not believe is healthy. Simply get popsicle molds and fill them with Greek yogurt. Make your own flavors by blending them with fresh fruit.

Try blending some with strawberry or with banana. Mango is great too. Just use your imagination and fill up the popsicle molds for a blissful treat that has all the flavor without all that fat.

4 Watermelon slush

Not only is watermelon delicious and sweet on its own, it also happens to be healthy. So take that watermelon and blend it in your blender with about 3 tablespoons of fresh lime juice. Strain it to remove any seeds. Mix around 2/3 cup of raw organic honey with 3/4 cup of water and simmer for 6 minutes. Let that cool and add it to your watermelon blend.

Pour this whole thing into a shallow pan and let it freeze for at least 30 minutes. You will see it crystallize and you can scoop it out into perfect, refreshing portion. Pro tip bonus: make it adult-friendly by adding a little alcohol to the mixture but keep it away from children. You can also make 2 different batches, ideal for parties.
