The First Study Shows Mindfulness Works Better for Women
What is the best way to spend more time in your own company? What is the most relaxing way to declutter your mind after a hectic day? Sure, mindfulness meditation.
Meditation offers a wealth of health benefits. It lets you tap into your awareness and connect on a deeper level. It allows you to let go of your worries and struggles and creates space for healing, happiness, stillness, creativity, and positive thoughts.
Meditation helps bring your focus and attention to the present and prevents you from thinking about the past. Most importantly, it helps you fight stress, fatigue, and depression. The benefits are endless, but it turned out men and women can reap them differently.
The gender divide in meditation exists
The first 2017 study conducted by the researchers from the Yale School of Medicine, Brown University, and Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, and published in Frontiers in Psychology, has found that women reap more benefits from meditation than men.
In fact, the study that involved 41 male and 36 female university students revealed the shocking news. According to the results, men felt worse after a 12-week meditation course than before they started.
Over the trial, women’s moods increased by an average of 11.6 points while men’s moods showed a non-significant 3.7 point increase. However, even though women showed better results, both genders developed a number of specific mindfulness skills.

Should men give up meditation?
Definitely no. The aim of this study was probably to figure out the beneficial effects of mindfulness on each gender in order to create mindfulness strategies that will best suit women and men in the future.
Mindfulness meditation can work miracles for both genders, but there is something that does not allow men to fully experience the benefits of it. Perhaps, a few further studies will be conducted and men will learn how to meditate to get the best out of each session.
Mindfulness is an effective way to manage overwhelming emotions in a calm and healthy way. If mindfulness meditation does not help you, it does not mean you should give up. Experiment with different techniques and ask experts for help. Modern life is hectic, which is why mindfulness is so important these days.
