10 Amazing Last-Minute Halloween Costume Ideas

Oct 24, 2022

Halloween is coming up fast and if you don’t have a costume yet, you might not find one in time for the holiday. Don’t worry, though. It’s easy enough to throw together a costume the day you need it, if you know what you’re doing. Here are a few creative last-minute Halloween costume ideas you and your family may want to try.

1 Where’s Waldo

Don’t worry, this Halloween costume idea is not only for kids, but for adults as well. Plus, it’s quick and easy to make. All you need for this costume is a red and white striped shirt and a hat. You can easily sew up your own hat with a pompom on the end. It might be easiest to pick out two striped shirts and cut one into a hat to sew up.

2 Daryl Dixon

Daryl is a popular character from The Walking Dead, a zombie television show. To dress up like this zombie-killing redneck, you will need a white wife-beater, some brown pants and a toy pistol or crossbow. Add a red rag to your back pocket and some dirt to your face to complete the look.

3 Greaser

Head back to a simpler time when guys wore white shirts, jeans and black leather jackets. Slick your hair back with oil or lots of gel to really get the look. It’s easy and anyone can do it, even if they have to borrow the jacket.

4 Hippie

Let your inner hippie out with flowing skirts, bell bottom jeans and peasant blouses. Guys and girls alike can tie a leather strip around their heads and shove a flower or two behind their ear. If you have anything tie-died, wear it, too. Head out to spread the flower power.

5 Gumball machine

Use hot glue to stick your kids’ ball pit balls to a sweat shirt. Add a sign that says $1 and pull on some leggings. If you want to get really fancy, you can make a hat out of cardboard and tinfoil to represent the top of the machine. Another option is to hot glue clear plastic around the bottom of the shirt, fill it with balls and then tie it around your chest.

6 Puppy

Cut out two felt ears and glue them to a headband. When worn with brown pants and a shirt, it will work for a dog. Add mittens for paws and use eyeliner or face paint to color your nose black and draw dots on either side of your mouth. You can adjust the basic idea to look like a cat or rabbit, as well, just by changing the ear shape and color.

7 Sims Character

Cut an elongated diamond shape out of green paper and add lines for the facets with a Sharpie. Glue it to a piece of cardboard so it will stay stiff. Attach the shape to a headband and put it on. Nothing else is necessary for this costume, so it is extremely simple to put together. If you want more authenticity, try printing out an image of the plumbob shape instead of using green paper.

8 Paper Bag Princess

Bring Robert Munsch’s character to life quickly and easily. Trace a sundress onto craft paper and cut out two pieces. You can either tape or sew the paper together to create a very basic shift dress or tunic to wear. Mess up your hair and add a small crown to one side. You can also rub dark makeup on your arms and face so you look like you’re covered in soot.

9 Black and White Characters

Make people look twice when you dress up as a black and white character. You’ll need black and white clothing, of course, as well as some grey face paint to cover your face and any other exposed skin. Smooth on some black lipstick and you will look like you just stepped out of an old television show.

10 Medusa

This is one of the most creative last-minute Halloween costume ideas that you can try this year. Hot glue a bunch of toy snakes to a swim cap and tuck all your hair up under it. Put on a long gown to finish the look. If you are going in a group, paint the men to look like stone.

Just because it’s last minute doesn’t mean you can’t have an awesome costume. You just need to get a little creative with what you have in your closet. If you have any last-minute Halloween costume ideas, feel free to share them with us in the comments section.
